Qualitative coding

The videos in the Qualitative Coding Series introduce coding theory and concepts with demonstrations in NVivo (CAQDAS is an acronym for Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis). The series was created and presented by Amir Michalovich with funding from a UBC OER Rapid Innovation Grant. (Also available in this YouTube playlist).

Part 1: Coding in CAQDAS
Part 2: Categorization and code herarchies in CAQDAS
Part 3: Qualitative coding tips

Coding in CAQDAS

  • Definitions of coding in Qualitiative Data Analysis (QDA)
  • Coding cycles
  • Types of codes
  • Data-driven and concept-driven codes
  • Common coding tasks (with demonstrations in NVivo)
