Project Setup

A fundamental workflow in QGIS is setting up your project. This includes gathering data, creating and saving a new QGIS Project, loading your data to this project, and adding a basemap. The following pages will guide you through these steps in detail. Then, you’ll be shown how to explore these layers and perform basic vector analysis to answer spatial questions.

If you haven’t already, Download and unzip the workshop data folder below. Download it to a folder on your physical computer, such as Desktop or Downloads, not OneDrive.

The data for this workshop is from The Government of Canada’s Open Governmental Data Portal (and maintained by Statistics Canada), City of Burnaby Open Data, and the City of Vancouver Open Data Portal. Datasets are used under the Statistics Canada Open Licence, Open Government Licence - City of Burnaby, and Open Government Licence - Vancouver respectively.
